Description: This box is made from rippled wild service tree and the trays are from american black walnut. It is lined in dark blue velvet and the wooden hinges are from black walnut.
This box was perhaps inspired by the famous lips couch created by Salvador Dali but if it was it must have been subconciously because I only remember seeing pictures of the couch after I had made the box!
Wild service tree is a wood that I had never come across until I found some in Ireland a couple of years ago. The tree itself is fairly rare and the wood is very hard and dense and has a delicate pinkish hue.
